Kid Sister – “Gucci Rag Top” remix feat. Danny Brown

After some serious time in the studio working on her next full-length album, Kid Sister is releasing a new EP, Kiss & Tell, on November 29th on Fool’s Gold Records. The MC born Melisa Young not only spent 2011 tearing down shows all over North America – from the Magic 8 Ball tour with A-Trak to NYC’s 80,000 deep Electric Zoo festival – but managed to bring that boundless on-stage energy to sessions with some of today’s most exciting producers.

The EP offers four of Kid Sister’s latest tracks with a diverse crew of collaborators. “Mickey” is a club workout from heavy hitting DJ/producer duo Nadastrom (Dave Nada and Matt Nordstrom who are currently helping pilot Skrillex’s sold-out Mothership tour), while “Hide N Seek” pairs Kid Sis with rap absurdist Riff Raff and bass maestros Sinden & 5kin&Bone5. Hip-hop hero Scoop Deville (Snoop, Game, Fat Joe) mans the boards for “Cliq Claq” (as featured in Stella McCartney‘s recent runway shows) as well as a brand-new remix of “Gucci Rag Top,” now featuring a guest verse from fellow Fool’s Gold rapper Danny Brown.

Check Yo Ponytail!

Check Yo Ponytail has had a tremendous run so far on their first ever tour with Spank Rock, Big Freedia, Pictureplane, The Death Set and Franki Chan.  At their first show in Los Angeles, Wavves was a stellar addition to the line up, and Santigold made a special appearance during Spank Rock’s set. With the amazing news of Fun Fun Fun Festival and Pitchfork teaming up to make the festival available for live streaming, everybody will be able to tune into the world of Check Yo Ponytail on Friday November 4th from 5pm CET (which equals, 3pm PST and 6pm EST) on with sets of Pictureplane, Franki Chan, Big Freedia and Spank Rock.

“Though it tends to favor electro, rock, and hip-hop most, the characteristics of a Check Yo Ponytail show go beyond genre limitations. Chan doesn’t care what kind of music an artist or band makes as long as it’s fun and adds to the whole tight-knit, projector screen visual-fueled, dance-minded feel of the evening.”San Francisco Bay Guardian

Fun Fun Fun Fest and Pitchfork announced that the 6th annual festival in Austin, Texas will be streaming live on pitchfork.com November 4 – 6, 2011. The Chicago quintet Scattered Trees’ Daytrotter Session show their skilled, multi-layered heartfelt songs HERE. The band premiered their latest video for “Sympathy” with MTV Hive. Directed by Scattered Trees’ guitarist/keyboardist J.M. Harper, “Sympathy” is a stark, poignant exploration of love, loss, and redemption — themes the band touches upon in their recently released full-length record. Praising the video, MTV Hive’s Jason Newman wrote, “The clip is a mini-movie that looks like a deleted scene from Werner Herzog’s soldier-gone-mad epic “Aguirre: The Wrath of God” … it feels more like an artsy, methodical short film than the budget-conscious, lo-fi approach employed by many indie bands.” Watch the video HERE.

Shunda K & Snax Get Funky

Shunda K of Yo! Majesty, a lesbian, African American rapper, and Snax, a gay, Caucasian producer and rapper, didn’t know that the quickie music video they shot in a Berlin grocery store over the course of a day for their fun party jam “It’s Time To Get Paid” would rack up 600,000-plus YouTube views in a week.  They also didn’t know they would be dealt a dose of reality about the state of tolerance in our country.

The clip, for the latest single from Shunda K’s album The Most Wanted generated hundreds of homophobic, racist and anti-Semitic (though neither artist is Jewish!) comments over the course of the time that the video was featured on YouTube’s front page as part of a playlist celebrating “National Coming Out Day.”

Neither artist set about to justify the hatred with direct commentary on the site itself, but Snax issued an insightful and bitingly humorous commentary via his website “World of Snax” at snaxonline.org.  That post has now been re-published by The Huffington Post. In the post, Snax states, “I can’t stop you from doing anything. Know this, though; your tossed off, poorly written and childishly expressed ranting is nothing more than hurtful and destructive…”

The clip for “It’s Time To Get Paid”  was shot on location in Berlin at Netto Grocery Store and Monster Ronson’s Ichiban Karaoke Nightclub. The clip also features an appearance by everyone’s favorite “F**k The Pain Away” performer, Peaches. Filmed, directed and edited by Robin Thomson, the video is accompanied by the release of a remix of the tune by DJ Dickey Doo, who also recently remixed the R.E.M. single “Alligator Aviator Autopilot Antimatter.”

New Music: Gigamesh

Gigamesh’s debut self-titled EP is available through all digital retailers starting today, through Our Label International. Additionally, fans can buy the extended version of the single “When You’re Dancing Ft. Induce” exclusively on Beatport. Gigamesh has received considerable attention and support from DJs as diverse as DJ AM and Brodinski to Busy P and Fare Soldi for his bootleg remixes of artists like Animal Collecitve, Lykke Li and Radiohead, the latter two of which hit #1 on the Hype Machine. In celebration of the EP release, he has released the new “It’s So Intense” (Fare Soldi Enrico Pallazzo Remix) MP3.

Check it out and download HERE.

Gigamesh opens the EP with disco-infused single “When You’re Dancing (feat. Induce)” with a hook that commands you to move. “It’s So Intense” lives up to its name as a hazy synth-driven club banger. EP closer “People” shows the melodic side of Gigamesh, lead by melodic vocals from Nicole Godiva while still incorporating bass guitar and synths.

Known for pushing the boundaries of dance music, Gigamesh has been making his mark for several years in dance clubs around the world. He has garnered widespread success with his own popular blend of remixes, as well as his work with remix group DiscoTech, and his role in Señor Stereo, a disco influenced live-electronic group. Gigamesh was hired to remix Mike Posner’s “Cooler Than Me” in late 2009.  Ultimately chosen to be the first single on Posner’s debut album, the Gigamesh version went on to sell over 2.5 million copies.

Gigamesh Tour Dates
10/29: Minneapolis, MN @ Kitty Cat Klub, Record Release Show
11/4: Toronto, ON @ The Gladstone
11/5: New York, NY @ Juliet Supperclub
11/18: Vancouver, BC @ Post Modern
