Interview with Adam Wills of Bear in Heaven
Last year I heard “Lovesick Teenagers” and was immediately in awe with Brooklyn’s Bear in Heaven. They were mysterious to me. Then, I started to see their name everywhere. Here’s my “I’m gonna open your brain and look inside (sort of)” interview with one of the first members of Bear in Heaven, Adam Wills.
Heather Frazier: I see you’re touring Australia next February? How cool!
Adam Wills: I know.
HF: Any cities or venues in particular that you’re most excited about?
AW: All of them. It’s the other side of the world, and it’s cool that we get to go play music there. I’ve never been, I remember my mom went for like a month when I was a little kid, and so she brought me back a picture and a boomerang. (laughs) But YEAH, I’m meeting up with a handful of friends from Australia that are here in NY that are nuts. They’re kind of notorious partiers, the Australians. We are also going in the middle of their summer, so it’s gonna be great to leave frigid NY.

Video Premiere of Shit Robot’s “Take Em Up”
Shit Robot premiered his new video for “Take ‘Em Up” over at Pitchfork on Monday. The video follows LCD Soundsystem’s Nancy Whang on a multi-colored, multiplied psychedelic voyage around Brooklyn.
“Best electronic album coming this year”
—The Guardian
“Irish-born Marcus Lambkin (a.k.a. Shit Robot) may be one of the lower-profile members of the DFA crew, but that doesn’t mean the man doesn’t have some serious DJ chops.”
—XLR8R
From the Cradle to the Rave (produced by James Murphy) is a near perfect album, and “Take Em Up” is one reason why. The interplay between Marcus “Shit Robot” Lambkin’s synthesizer disco-funk and Nancy Whang’s unflappable vocals is, simply, great. The album also features other DFA family guests such as Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor and Juan MacLean.
Shit Robot, aka Marcus Lambkin (aka The Godfather of DFA, according to Murphy), is an Irish-born DJ who has been spinning dance music for over two decades. He’s responsible for not only turning Murphy onto dance music in the 90’s, but also literally lending his carpentry skills to build the infamous DFA studio from the ground up.

Kavinsky’s “Nightcall” Remixed
In September, Kavinsky released his newest single “Nightcall” via Record Makers. The package is bundled with three amazing remixes from Breakbot, SAWAGii and Robotaki, and now there is a new remix to add to the collection. This latest dancefloor destroyer is given to us courtesy of Dustin Nguyen, which is the pseudonym for a much-loved French producer who can make anyone D.A.N.C.E.
Produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk and mixed by SebastiAn, the track finds the spooky, distorted, zombie vocals of Kavinsky perfectly counterbalanced by the sultry purr of CSS’ Lovefoxxx.
Overwhelmed by the stunning response to the remix contest for Kavinsky’s Nightcall, Record Makers have decided to take things one step further and allow graphic designers and illustrators to contribute their interpretations of Kavinsky’s zombie universe. The Fan Art contest will run from now until December 31st. 50 illustrations will be chosen and included in a limited edition book. The winning design will take pride of place on the front cover. The first 20 illustrations will get a copy of the book, and every winning illustrator will receive music digitally. For more info on the contest or to submit an entry, check out http://www.kavinskyfanart.com

David Crowder Band – “SMS (Shine)” *Video*
David Crowder Band debuted the new video for their next single “SMS (Shine)”. This video gives me chills, really. It makes me want to smile, cry and smile again.
The video’s centerpiece is a bit of nostalgia that everyone will remember from childhood: LITE–BRITE®. Directed, shot and edited entirely by the band, the visually stunning new clip was created using over 700,000 LITE-BRITE® pegs composing 1,200 LITE-BRITE® images. No computer generated graphics or effects whatsoever were used. However, there were 2,150 man-hours from 83 friends who were powered by 148 pizzas!
Utilizing the ‘stop-motion’ style of filmmaking, “SMS (Shine)” tells the story of a couple falling in love. Each frame was painstakingly conceived with exquisite detail and ‘moving’ images. The creators even take us outside the canvas of the vintage toy to tell the couple’s story. It was a labor of love and the end result is mesmerizing. This is truly great visual art with a vintage toy from the 80s.
Who knew a video using a LITE-BRITE® could evoke such emotions!?!
Upcoming Show: Mimosa
Earlier this month, Mimosa came out with another album, Silver Lining. If you are a fan of The Glitch Mob or electronic dub and breaks, you’ll love Mimosa.
Personally, I’m a big fan of last years, Flux For Life.
Anyways, Wednesday, November 3rd Mimosa is playing in Pittsburgh at Mr. Smalls Theatre with The New Deal and Two Fresh.
I’m more of a new fan when it comes to The New Deal and Two Fresh. And I enjoy The New Deal more than Two Fresh. But, that’s just me. And I haven’t even listened to THAT much of either, so maybe that’s not even accurate…who knows?
Check out this live video of The New Deal performing “Home” in Brooklyn. If you refrain from dancing, (I mean, c’mon, even if it’s just a little bit in your seat) you must not have a soul.
