Check ‘Em Out: Incan Abraham

IA 2

Friends since kindergarten, the members of Incan Abraham (Giuliano Pizzulo, Teddy Cafaro, Spencer Mandel) channel their fingerpainted past in their debut LP, fusing Lost Boys tribal energy with guitar, synth, and harmony vocal soundscapes that arc and circle like bikes in desert washes. After spending college marooned on opposite coasts, the friends reunited on a whim in a secluded house in upstate New York for a weekend that turned into a month spent writing music and contemplating their shared histories of childhood escapism and pop nostalgia.

Returning to their native Los Angeles, they seasoned their sound in the arid air and eclectic east side music scene, until a fateful encounter with their producer-to-be and sonic sherpa Lewis Pesacov (Best Coast, FIDLAR, Fool’s Gold).  The resulting album Tolerance will be released on April 8th on White Iris Records.

The foursome is set to tour starting February 9th in San Francisco and share their upcoming album in a live setting and will play multiple times at Austin’s SXSW.

Listen: Bad Things – “Anybody”

artworks-000068035398-80wrbi-t500x500

LA rock band Bad Things – that consists of front man/lead singer Davis LeDuke, bass player Jared Palomar (formerly of Augustana), guitarist Anthony Sanudo, drummer Lena Zawaideh and lead guitarist Shaun White (professional snowboarder/skateboarder) will be releasing their debut, self-titled album January 21st on Warner Bros. Records. The lead single “Anybody, ” a “chugging rock anthem heavy with choirboy backing harmonies” according to Rolling Stone, is now for sale at iTunes and streaming on YouTube and Soundcloud.

Listen: Bad Things – “Anybody”

Right on the heels of Bad Things‘ release, NBC is set to air “Shaun White: Russia Calling” on January 25th. The special gives an inside look at how the gold-medal-winning snowboarder prepped for the Winter Olympics in Sochi next month in addition to juggling his other commitments, including Bad Things.

Get a taste of what Bad Things are all about live, check out this video (below) from Lollapalooza of the band covering Iggy And The Stooges’ “Search And Destroy” as well as a clip of “Anybody.” Bad Things completed a North American tour of the country last fall that included festival stops at Lollapalooza in Chicago, Osheaga Festival in Montreal and Voodoo Music and Art Experience in New Orleans, which earned the band much deserved acclaim.

Bad Things earned their undeniable chemistry through sheer persistence and – in the case of Zawaideh, guitarist Anthony Sanudo, and lead guitarist Shaun White – a friendship forged in their San Diego hometown that dates back to their teens. In 2014 Bad Things is ready to share their electrifying sound and moving lyrics with the world. With the upcoming self-titled debut release, it’s only the beginning.  “Music is what we do,” Sanudo says. “It is all we can do and all we ever want to do. Though obviously Shaun is pretty good at a couple of other things.”

Newest Love: Little Earthquake

unnamed
Little Earthquake is the brainchild of siblings Mathew and Justin Hyland, keen students of indie pop, embracing rock, electronic and acoustic instruments to bring their quirky electro-pop melodies to life.

Based on the Central Coast of Australia, the brothers grew up in bands together at school before heading to the states where they toured as guest members of US indie rockers Lydia, crossing the country and getting a taste for the road.

It was winding their way across American highways that the brothers began writing together for a new project, creating tracks which would go on to become the basis for Little Earthquake.

Returning to Australia in 2013, Little Earthquake was born, named after a Facebook status that Justin stumbled across. After reading the comments of people who agreed they had all felt it, he wanted their music to affect people in the same way.

The brothers teamed up with producer Lachlan Mitchell (The Jezabels, Pnau) who took their songs to a new level, creating the basis of their forthcoming EP (due out in April). One of the standout tracks from the sessions was “Planets” which would go on to become the band’s first single.

Video: Black Lips – “Boys in the Wood”

Black Lips have dropped the first video from their new one Underneath the Rainbow (out 3/18). The ATL Twins/Matt Swinsky co-directed clip for “Boys In The Wood” is a parade of NSFW visuals set in the backwoods: drinking, drugging, fighting, murder, face-pissing, fire dancing, sponge bathing in a coffin – all somehow beautifully rendered.

artworks-000067777169-mrymk8-t500x500

“ …adding in big beats, subtracting the scuzzy guitars, smoothing out the chorus, and having Alcock give his best Jack-White-yelping impression.” – NYLON

“…a sticky indie edit of the old-school, feel-groovy joint.”  VIBE

The New Royales have a background as interesting as the music they create together. The band has released Freedom’s For The Brave – an album of covers featuring some of their various influences, including tracks by Depeche Mode, The Zombies, Jefferson Airplane & more.

The band previously unveiled their interpretation of The Monks’ classic, “Drugs In My Pocket“ and their irresistible take on The White Stripes’ “Fell In Love With A Girl.” Now, they release Freedom’s For The Brave and the full album is streaming for your listening pleasure!!!

Stream: The New Royales – Freedom’s For The Brave

The New Royales’ Liz Rodrigues recently lent her voice to Eminem’s latest hit, “Survival.” 2-time GRAMMY winning (4-time nominated) producer, DJ Khalil, has worked with the likes of Jay Z, Dr. Dre, Drake & Kendrick Lamar. In addition, DJ Khalil and Liz, along with Canadian multi-instrumentalists and vocalists Erik Alcock & Chin Injeti, have co-written with Pink on her 5 million albums sold, The Truth About Love, Pitbull’s Can’t Stop Me Now & Eminem‘s hit record Marshall Mathers LP 2 (“Survival”), which debuted at #1 on the iTunes album chart.

Hailing from separate parts of the world; Liz, Erik, Chin & DJ Khalil, The New Royales’ diverse makeup lends a hand in the uniqueness of their sound, pushing their own musical boundaries whilst still remaining a cohesive unit.

Their diverse backgrounds and unifying passion and respect for music has led to a sound that is eclectic and futuristic with a twist of the past.

Video: Jeremy and The Harlequins – “Trip Into The Light”

unnamed (1)

In an era of digitized, recycled beats, Brooklyn-based quintet Jeremy and The Harlequins are a welcome breath of fresh air. A modern, energizing take on the best of classic American rock & roll, the band’s sound conjures inspiration from the likes of Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, and Elvis Presley. Jeremy and The Harlequins recently released their self-titled debut EP!

Having previously unveiled EP cut “Trip Into The Light,” an up-tempo, unadulterated rock joint with raw vocals & foot-stomping drumbeats, the band now reveals the Ellen Francis-directed accompanying video- a dark, sultry oeuvre complete with motorcycles, rocking guitars & enigmatic symbolism.

Jeremy and The Harlequins consists of brothers Jeremy & Stevie Fury (We Are The Fury), Craig Bonich (Head Automatica), Nathan Cogan & Patrick Meyer. The band came together somewhat serendipitously, spending less than week in a whirlwind of rehearsals & recorded their debut self-titled EP at Detroit’s famous Tempermill Studios (The White Stripes, Loretta Lynn).
