Cuci Amador and Smurphio formed Afrobeta in 2006 as a means to attain an ultimate form of artistic self-expression. Their mutual love of classic songwriting, Cuban pastries and dancing till 5AM inspired them to make music together. The thirteen tracks that make up their debut album will undoubtedly ignite dance-floors around the world. Afrobeta’s unique (and diverse) sound transcends genre classifications. Cuci’s rapid-fire delivery, combined with Smurphio’s funky synths and head-bopping basslines, will keep you moving from start to finish on Under The Streets.

Afrobeta is taking their joyous beats and dazzling live shows across the nation and abroad! 2010 included high profile performances at the 40th Anniversary Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, the 12th annual Ultra Music Festival, Burning Man, Ultra Brazil and Space Ibiza.

Newest Love: French Horn Rebellion

French Horn Rebellion (Robert and David Perlick-Molinari) kick off 2011 by announcing the US self-release of their debut album The Infinite Music of French Horn Rebellion on April 19th digitally and May 24th physically (Once Upon A Time Records). They’re also appearing at Austin’s SXSW, stopping for an Asian date with MGMT and embarking on a 27 date North American tour supporting French electro pop outfit Yelle starting 17th April.

Written, produced and mixed by Robert and David,The Infinite Music…’ is a debut album that warps the fabric of dance, electro, rock and funk. Crucially, the album also follows an intergalactic narrative that tracks the physical and emotional journey of an unknown French Horn player. “There is a story running through the album, it’s about the Universe. We’re pretty clear on what the story is, but what you take away from it may be something entirely different,” says David.

On the back of just three EP’s to date, these two unassuming brothers, originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have already toured and played with the likes of Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells, The Drums, Cut Copy and SebastiAn.

The Brooklyn-based duo already had an illustrious pedigree; David produced MGMT’s indie release, Time to Pretend EP for New York indie Cantora Records. The band have also remixed the likes of MEN, Two Door Cinema Club, OMD and Alex Winston. Following packed out NYC performances at CMJ, the Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival and in support to MNDR at the launch of new Neon Gold / Popjustice party POPSHOP, FHR will visit Europe in March for a handful of shows before heading home to play SXSW and then on to Asia for shows in Hong Kong (w/ MGMT), China, Korea and Japan. Their 27 date North American tour supporting Yelle kicks off in Phoenix on April 17th.

Free Download Today Only: Wild Beasts “Albatross”

Listen to new single "Albatross"

Wild Beasts will be releasing their third album, Smother, May 10th on Domino. Listeners can get a sneak peek of what’s to come now by checking out their new track, “Albatross.” It’s a “statement of intent,” as Wild Beasts’ Hayden Thorpe says, and it shows much about where the band is heading and how they’ve grown.

“Albatross” embodies the spirit of Wild Beasts’ third album in its tone and texture. Its layers of abstract sounds are combined to form something typically bold and unique. The single sees the band shed their old skin for a fresh blueprint, combining their distinctive vocal, piano and guitar driven melodies with lush electronic sounds. It is Wild Beasts delving deeper, finding a music even more intimate and personal.  As Thorpe says, it shows them “empowered and emboldened.“

Download “Albatross” free today on Wild Beasts’ Facebook page.

New Downloads: WOLFRAM

Euro and Italo disco, in their purest forms, are undeniably worthy strains of this thing we call club music. Austrian mixer Wolfram believes that the populace often forgets this, and we’re partial to agree—like any genre, there is a lot of bad Euro/Italo out there, clogging our ears with tacky, unimaginative glitter.

This Johan Agebjorn take on “Fireworks” (feat. Hercules & Love Affair) is the first step in Wolfram’s campaign to rid the world’s dancefloors of junk. Supple and slinky, this track is cold new wave, golden ballad, and irresistible 90s-tinged synthpop all in one. — RCRD LBL

The full debut won’t be out until April, but here’s something to hold you over.

Newest Love: Gordon Voidwell

On the track, “Ivy League Circus,” the velvety, 80’s R&B style vocals glide over an elastic, electro-funk groove. The clip was directed by The Wilderness, who also helmed videos for Passion Pit, The Juan MacLean, Antipop Consortium, and Spank Rock.

He has produced songs on both Das Racist mixtapes (“Shorty Said” and “Puerto Rican Cousins”), an official remix of Twin Shadow’s I Can’t Wait,” and the track “Spring Fever” for battle rap king Iron Solomon.

Gordon has also won the adorations of everyone from indie darlings BRAHMS (who remixed Voidwell’s “Ivy League Circus”) to pop music masterminds like Grammy-winning producer Mark Ronson (who declared “I love this shit.  I play it on my radio show, in my house AND in my sets.”)  Mayer Hawthorne, another fan, even invited Gordon to open his tour this past Fall along with The Heavy. His first full length debut album will be out later this year.

You can grab a free download of the original AND BRAHMS remix of “Ivy League Circus” over at Stereogum: click here!

Dearling Physique

Last month, I posted a video from new band Dearling Physique. Now, the Minneapolis band is the “Artist of the Week” this week on MTV’s new music blog, Iggy. Read their Q & A with Domino Davis by clicking here.

The band’s debut album Deadeye Dealer is out now. Also, they’ll be at SXSW on March 15th when they appear as part of the Art Disaster/Fanatic showcase at Beauty Bar. You can grab a couple free mp3’s by clicking here and heading to Last.fm.

The two singles that have been getting the group attention are “Discipline Your Hands” and “Monster,” both of which are the best from Deadeye Dealer. Though I like the idea of the group and think they’re interesting, those are the only two tracks that got more than 2 stars from me. “Sleep and the Heart” almost gave me nightmares from the demonic, scary sounding voices. Otherwise, they have similarities to Depeche Mode, which is a plus; unfortunately, I just couldn’t get as “into” them as I’d hoped.
